Ukraine submits a claim against Russia to European Court of Human Rights over ‘aggression in the Donbas in 2014’
Ukraine filed a legal claim with the European Court of Human Rights or ECHR as part of the lawsuit against Russia, which relates to the events in the Donbas in 2014, as stated by the Minister of Justice of Ukraine Pavlo Petrenko, Korrespondent.net reports.
Petrenko explained that Kyiv filed a "big legal position" with testimonies of witnesses on the events in the Donbas in 2014. "The deadline ended a week ago. We made it in time," the minister said.
Petrenko recalled that in early spring, Ukraine filed a legal position with the ECHR about Ukraine’s suit against Russia in the Crimea.
"We have a number of interstate cases in the ECHR. The first is the Crimea, the second is the Donbas in 2014, the third is the Donbas in 2015, partially in 2016 and the fourth is about kidnapping. We have now filed a legal position on the fiercest phase of the Donbas conflict, 2014. After that, the court must determine the procedural timetable for the consideration of the case, how this case will be heard, where it will be considered, and how the witnesses will be questioned. We are already moving to the stage of considering cases,” the minister stressed.
Petrenko said that Ukraine is conducting a "big judicial war" against Russia. There are a few cases in the UN international court as well.
