Ukrainian military capture pro-Russian fighter during a counter attack in Donbas
A Russian mercenary captured by Azov soldiers said his group had entered a grey area to frame the Ukrainian military in disrupting the "ceasefire", reported the press service of Azov battalion providing the details of the operation near Horlivka (Donetsk region).
On the night of August 28-29, Azov fighters noticed a group of pro-Russian militants moving through the grey zone in an attempt to infiltrate Ukrainian positions in the Svitlodar salient in violation of the Minsk agreements.
Azov's soldiers decided to open fire on the militants. During the short-term fight, Ukrainian soldiers killed four militants and one was seriously wounded. He was taken prisoner and was given the medical treatment and taken to hospital.
The captive mercenary confessed that he was serving in the 2nd Platoon of the 2nd Company of the 1st DPR Third Brigade Battalion. His group entered the gray zone in order to disrupt the ceasefire and blame the Ukrainian side for it.
According to the militant, the battalion's command is mainly Russian officers. He also said that the combat units of the DPR and LPR are understaffed and comprised with only one third of military personnel.
The militants' barracks, according to the prisoner, are housed in residential buildings in the occupied settlements. Military equipment is deployed in the territory of civilian facilities.
The captured militants turned out to be a resident of the city of Horlivka as most of the militants from his brigade, which is overseen by a Russian officer.
