Ukrainian military gains control of another village in Donbas
The Ukrainian military announced that it has taken control of the Novoaleksandrivka village in the Popasna region of the Luhansk province, a village which lies on the demarcation line. This was reported in a Military TV Ukraine story posted on the Defense Ministry’s official website.
“Since 2015, the fortifications on the outskirts of the village were the extreme positions of the Ukrainian defenders on the one side, and the positions of the pro-Russian militants on the other. Recently the Ukrainian soldiers improved their tactical position, progressing several kilometers along the demarcation line, and taking control of Novoaleksandrivka,” the story states.
Since the start of the conflict in the Donbas, the population of Novoaleksandrivka has declined. Whereas once it was home to 124 people, it is currently inhabited by less than 20.
In November 2017, the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) took control of Maiske and Hladosove, two villages in the Svitlodarsk salient which lie on the demarcation line. The civilian and military collaboration office of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that officers of the Bakhmut and Svitlodarsk groups visited the captured villages and “handed out basic necessity food packages to the local residents, consisting of cereals and canned meat and fish”. The self-declared Donetsk People’s Republic also reported that Hladosove had been captured by the Ukrainian military.
