Ukrainian President promotes five colonels to the rank of General

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko promoted five Colonels of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the rank of General and promoted two Major Generals to Lieutenant Generals, according to a decree published on the President’s website.

The new Lieutenant Generals are Marine Corps Commander Major-General Yuriy Sodol and Rodion Tymoshenko, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Major General of the Ukrainian Navy.

The new Major-Generals are: Colonel Yuriy Hudeev, Chief of Staff, first deputy of command logistics of the ground troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; Colonel Volodymyr Kydon, head of the Department of Defense Planning, Deputy Chief of ground forces; Colonel Evgeny Moysyuk, first deputy commander of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces; Colonel Viktor Nikolyuk, Late Commandant of the 169th Training Centre of the Ukrainian ground forces; and Colonel Ihor Chepkov, the Head of Central Scientific Research Institute of Armaments and Military Equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In October, Poroshenko appointed a woman as Major General. Lyudmyla Shuhaley, head of the Military Medical Office of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), became the first woman general in the history of Ukraine.
