Ukrainian President Poroshenko reveals plan to take back Donbas and Crimea
In an on-air interview with Novoye Vremya (New Time) radio station, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that, if reelected, he plans to win back Crimea and the Donbas using the Minsk agreements.
“Part of fulfilling the Minsk agreements is the formation of its security components. The security component will be broached by introducing the blue helmets issue to the UN Security Council... An absolutely traditional peacekeeping mission that must fulfill several tasks to create a secure environment - removing all foreign troops from Ukraine, disarming illegal armed formations and pushing heavy weapons and equipment out of Ukraine’s territory”, he said.
He believes the next step should be restoring the activities of Ukrainian political forces on territories currently outside of Kyiv’s control as well as taking control of the uncontrolled segment of the Ukrainian-Russian border.
Poroshenko also spoke about seeking a UN General Assembly resolution to create a Ukrainian platform for the de-occupation of Crimea.
In addition, the incumbent president announced a summit meeting in the “Normandy format” after his re-election.
The second round of presidential elections in Ukraine will take place on April 21.
