Ukrainian President Zelensky names steps to achieve peace in Donbas
At a joint briefing after a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Toronto on July 2, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that peace in the Donbas is possible through political and diplomatic means, reports RBC-Ukraine.
According to Zelensky, the first issue that he discussed with Trudeau was the peace in Ukraine.
"I am sure that we will achieve real progress only through political and diplomatic means. So in the end, we will force Russia to stop the escalation, to ensure a sustainable ceasefire, and to ensure the withdrawal of forces and the release of all our Ukrainian prisoners," Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian President stressed the importance of the sanctions policy mechanism in this issue, which should be continued.
"We understand when international partners say that they are losing money, but we have lost territories and people," Zelensky said.
Earlier, Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine that was established for the settlement of the situation in the Donbas could not achieve any progress in the issues of truce and exchange of detained persons at its last meeting because of the position of the Russian side.
