US gives Ukrainian military night vision devices worth $5.8 million
The US handed over to the Armed Forces of Ukraine 2,500 units of night vision equipment worth $5.8 million. The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said, "This equipment is provided to Ukraine free of charge in accordance with the program of security assistance on Ukraine, which is conducted with the support of the US government."
The report also said that the devices provided are sufficient to equip ten battalions. Viktor Muzhenko, Chief of the General Staff, said that they will be given to the troops soon.
Marie Yovanovitch, US Ambassador to Ukraine, reiterated that since 2014, the US has provided Ukraine with $850 million worth of defense assistance. This includes different equipment, including counter-battery combat equipment, unmanned aerial vehicles, armored vehicles and ambulances.
In December 2017, US President Donald Trump signed the country's defense budget for 2018, which allocated 350 million dollars for the defense of Ukraine.
