US to invest $650 million in Ukrainian energy projects
The American Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) is planning to invest $650 million in a number of new projects in Ukraine, the corporation’s president Ray Washburne announced during a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman, UNIAN reports.
“In the immediate plans of our corporation there are projects to invest $250 million in a new project with Energoatom. Another agreement on the construction of energy facilities in Zaporizhia is still being concluded. It will be a project for $400 million,” Washburne said.
The president of OPIC thanked Ukrainian Finance Minister Oleksandr Danylyuk for help in preparing these projects.
Washburne also said that agreements had been achieved for two projects to support small and medium enterprise.
“We have already had the first meetings to launch these projects,” he added.
The president of OPIC also said that negotiations were being held for another project, but he did not provide details or mention the investment amount. “We are interested in deepening the economic ties between the two countries, and it is very symbolic that my first trip after being appointed is precisely here,” Washburne emphasized.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman, in turn, expressed the hope that the bilateral collaboration would be successful, and thanked the US for supporting Ukraine.
“I am firmly convinced that in future we will be able to ensure more dynamic economic growth. In order to do this, we need investments, and I think that in the context of our collaboration we will be able to establish the priorities which will be profitable for both parties,” the head of state said.
