  • Norway to build fence along Russian border

    Norway intends to build a fence at the checkpoint "Borisoglebsk - Storskog" on the border with Russia, as reported by the Norwegian government-owned radio and television public broadcasting company, NRK, with reference to the local police chief, Katrina Ellen Hetta.

    Norwegian authorities have already notified Russia of its intention.

  • US to build radar system along Russian-Norwegian border

    RBC reported on March 30th that the US will build a new military radar system in the Norwegian Vardø municipality on the border with Russia. The new military radar will be an upgraded model of the Globus II, which was installed in the late 1990s and is currently still in use. Work will begin in the summer of 2017 and will take about three years to complete. The US intends to spend 118 million to upgrade Globus II.

  • Police chief in Norwegian province asks government for power to close border with Russia

    The Head of the Police of Finnmark, Norway,  Helen Catherine Haetta, appealed to the government p grant the police the right to close the border with Russia.

    In 2016, Lithuania will import more gas from Norway than from Russia, as stated by the Minister of Energy of Lithuania, Rokas Masiulis, Reuters reports.

    Russian Gazprom enjoyed a monopoly on the Lithuanian gas market before the end of 2014, when Lithuania opened a floating liquefied gas terminal.  This allowed tankers from Norway to supply gas to Lithuania.
