Captured British nationals fighting in the Ukrainian military against Russia will appeal death sentences
British citizens Aiden Aslin and Shaun Pinner, both of whom were captured by pro-Russian separatists last month in Mariupol, Ukraine, will appeal their death sentences, according to Russia state-owned TASS news agency.
On June 9th, Aslin, Pinner, and a Moroccan national, Saadun Brahim, were handed death sentences by a tribunal in the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic, which now controls the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol. The three were captured while defending the city.

European Court of Human Rights tells Russia to halt execution of captured Moroccan fighter in Ukraine
The European Court of Human Rights ordered Russia to stop the execution of Brahim Saadoun, a Moroccan national who was captured in April and was handed a death sentence last week in a court in the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic.
Saadoun, 21, and two British citizens, Aiden Aslin, 28, and Shaun Pinner, 48, were accused of working as foreign mercenaries. All three had officially enlisted in the Ukrainian armed forces.

A tribunal in the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic, which now controls the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol, has sentences two UK citizens and one Moroccan to death, Russian state media has reported.
Aiden Aslin and Shaun Pinner of Britain and Saadun Brahim of Morocco were charged as working as foreign mercenaries. The self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic was recognized by Moscow on the eve of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The tribunal is not internationally recognized.
