British aid worker dies in captivity of Russia-backed separatists in Ukraine
A British aid worker who had been detained by Russian-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine has died in their custody.
Paul Urey, 45, was charged with “mercenary activities” by rebels in the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic.
Presidium Network, a British nonprofit, said in April that Urey and another volunteer were providing humanitarian assistance when they were detained at a checkpoint in southern Ukraine while trying a help a family escape.

The death toll from Russia’s missile strike on residential buildings in Chasiv Yar has risen to 46, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service. Rescue teams are still searching the rubble for victims.
Chasiv Yar, a small town in Ukraine’s Donetsk region, was hit by multiple missiles on Saturday. The strike marks the largest loss of life in Ukrainian-controlled Donbas since 52 people were killed in a Russian strike on a train station in Kramatorsk in April.

Putin: Russia ‘hasn’t started anything serious yet’ in Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin told Duma deputies on Thursday that Russia “by and large hasn’t started anything seriously yet” in Ukraine.
Putin also challenged Western countries supporting Ukraine to try to defeat Russia on the battlefield.
"Today we hear that they want to defeat us on the battlefield. Well, what can you say here? Let them try," Putin said.

At G20, US Secretary of State calls Russia out for blocking Ukrainian grain exports
At a closed-door session at a meeting Friday at the G20 summit in Bali, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken condemned Russia for blocking Ukrainian grain exports amid rising global food prices.
The G20 meeting is the first time top US and Russian diplomats have been in the same room since Russia invaded Ukraine in February.
