OSCE: The situation in the Donbas continues to deteriorate

According to the Principal Deputy Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine, Alexander Hug, the situation in the Donbas continues to deteriorate, especially in Avdiivka, Yasynuvata and the Donetsk Airport, Ukrainskaya Pravda reported.

Hug stated that many people in these areas are often times forced to seek shelter in cellars and basements to escape the exchange of fire.

In other areas of eastern Ukraine, however, the situation has improved, but it still cannot be considered normal, Hug noted.

On Sunday, for example, in government-controlled Pervomaysk, observers saw craters that were created by 120-mm mortar shells. The ordinance had fallen just four meters from a kindergarten and playground. No children were present during the attack, though a nearby worker was killed.

Hug called on the parties to refrain from attacking areas where children are present.

In general, according to Hug, the situation in the Donbas continues to deteriorate.

The OSCE’s Principal Deputy also noted that observers had been denied entry to several separatist-held areas.
