Dzhemilev : Russia deployed six nuclear warheads to Crimea
After the annexation of the Crimea, it is possible that in early 2016, the Russians deployed nuclear weapons to the territory which is not controlled by Ukraine. According to People's Deputy of Ukraine Mustafa Dzhemilev, six nuclear warheads are located on the territory of the peninsula.
"First of all, this is a gross violation of the Budapest Memorandum because Crimea is the territory of Ukraine. We [Ukraine], a non-nuclear state became a nuclear state again. I appealed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, talked with many deputies saying that we need the assistance of the IAEA. Because this is a threat not only for Ukraine, but for the entire Black Sea region,” the leader of the Crimean Tatar people said.
The information about the deployment of nuclear warheads in the Crimea is not supported by official sources. However, it has been reported that after the annexation of the Crimea, the former Soviet nuclear weapons storage facility in Feodosiya that was destroyed in the 90’s underwent a large-scale restoration and guards were deployed there.
