Erdogan: we are in constant contact with Putin
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that Turkey has no problems with Russia in connection with the operation launched by Ankara in Syria, reports RIA Novosti news agency.
"We have no problems with Russia, and we are in touch with Russian President Vladimir Putin," said Erdoğan at a meeting with Turkish media editors-in-chief in Istanbul on Sunday.
Erdoğan said that if there is any problem, he and Vladimir Putin have a phone conversation within 24 hours and then take the necessary joint steps.
Turkey launched a military “Operation Peace Spring” in Northern Syria on October 9. It is directed against the Kurdistan Workers Party, which is banned in Turkey. It was reported earlier that over the weekend, the Turkish military and the Syrian armed opposition had taken control of the towns Ras al-Ain and Tel Abyad.
The Syrian authorities have repeatedly condemned Turkey's policy in Northern Syria. Russia also said that Turkey needs to avoid actions that could prevent the resolving of the Syrian conflict. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said on Twitter that he is working with senators and congressmen on the introduction of "powerful sanctions" against Turkey for the military operation against US-allied Kurdish groups in Syria.
