Israeli Army holds a special draft call for reservists
The Israeli Defense Forces or IDF launched a special draft call on Tuesday for reservists in accordance with specific needs after President Donald Trump announced the withdrawal from the nuclear agreement with Iran, TASS reports, citing a spokesman for the IDF.
"We’re holding a special call up [of reservists] in accordance with specific needs," the spokesman said to the news agency.
Earlier on Tuesday, Israel put the troops on the northern border on a state of high alert, deployed air defenses and ordered the bomb shelters open. "After revealing the irregular activity of the Iranian forces in Syria, the army decided to change the instructions for civil defense in the Golan Heights and instructed the local authorities to unlock and prepare bomb shelters in the area," the army press service said. "In addition, air defense systems are deployed, and the troops are on high alert for attack."
"The citizens of Israel should be attentive to the instructions of the army, which will be distributed if necessary," the military added. "The army is ready for various scenarios and warns that any aggression against Israel will be met with a tough response."
The Golan Heights, which had belonged to Syria since 1944, was captured by Israel during the Six-Day War in 1967. In 1981, the Knesset (Israeli parliament) adopted the "Law on the Golan Heights" that unilaterally proclaimed the sovereignty of the Jewish state over this territory.
