Kremlin conducts inspection of tanks, troops and S-400 missile systems in western Russia
A comprehensive final inspection of troops for the summer training period has begun in Russia’s Western Military District (WMD). Several armies and the Baltic Fleet will participate in the inspection, the Russian Defense Ministry announced on its website.
The inspection, led by WMD Commander Colonel-General Alexander Zhuravlev, will affect 26 regions where military divisions are stationed within the district.
The ministry states that during the inspection in the Leningrad province, the operating crews of S-400 “Triumph” anti-air missile systems will practice defending facilities against attacks from an airborne enemy. In the Ivanovo province, Iskander crews will practice destroying control points electronically.
In the provinces of Karelia, Voronezh and Tver, Su-35S and MiG-31BM multirole fighters will practice intercepting tactical cruise missiles, and Su-34 bombers will bomb practice targets.
During the inspection in the Moscow, Smolensk and Bryansk provinces, practice shots will be fired from BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles, T-72, T-80 and T90 tanks, BTR-82A armored transports and Tornado, Grad and Uragan multiple rocket launchers. The Baltic Fleet also will be involved in the inspection.
As part of the Tsentr-2019 exercise in September, Iskander-M tactical missile system crews successfully fired missiles at practice targets in the Orenburg province. The effectiveness of the shots was monitored using an Orlan-10 drone.
