Kyiv to lift restrictions on the privatization of Ukrainian defense companies

The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC), the Cabinet of Ministers and the National Security Committee of the Verkhovna Rada are preparing a bill to lift restrictions for privatizing state defense enterprises, stated NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov.

"We are actively working with the Cabinet of Ministers, the Verkhovna and the relevant committees in order to lift any restrictions on privatization of the state defense enterprises and investments at the legislative level, including attracting foreign investments in these enterprises that are severely restricted by Ukrainian legislation today,” the Secretary said at the briefing.

According to Turchynov, this encourages the development of Ukrainian defense and industrial enterprises which will significantly strengthen their positions.

In May, at the regular session, the government approved the list of enterprises for privatization for 2018 that lists 26 enterprises, including regional power distributors (Oblenergos), Centerenergo, Odesa Port Plant, Turboatom state-owned enterprise, Zaporizhzhya Titanium-Magnesium plant, United Mining and Chemical Company (PJSC UMCC) and PJSC Sumykhimprom. 18 facilities of the 26 are already managed by the State Property Fund of Ukraine.
