Macron and Putin hold phone conversation to discuss situation in Ukraine
French President Emmanuel Macron and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation on Friday.
The Kremlin’s press service reported that the Heads of State discussed the situation in Ukraine "with an emphasis on the need for full implementation of the [Minsk Agreements]”, among other things.
Later, Elysee Palace releases statement confirming conversation occurred.
"In connection with the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, the President of the Republic noted that implementation of the Minsk Agreements has reached a deadlock, and stressed the need for taking concrete measures to de-escalate the conflict and alleviate the suffering of the people, [launch] the ceasefire, and immediately implement the humanitarian measures proposed by France and Germany," – reads the statement released by Macron’s administration.
Macron and Putin are leaders of the countries participating in the "Normandy Quartet," a group that is trying to end the fighting in eastern Ukraine.
