Pro-Russian militants try to break through the front line near Avdiivka, Ukrainian Armed Forces repel the attack
Russian-controlled military formations continue to violate the ceasefire in the Donbas, using heavy mortars and artillery that are prohibited by the Minsk Agreements, the press service of the Ukrainian Joint Forces Operation (JFO) reports.
According to the Ukrainian military, On Friday, June 15, seven armed provocations by the enemy were recorded. Soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were actively defending their positions and had opened retaliatory fire to suppress the enemy shelling.
In the Donetsk region, the separatists established firing positions in the residential areas.
The militants shelled the town of Vodyane three times from 120 millimeters mortars. The Ukrainian Armed Forces responded opening fire at the enemy’s firing positions.
The subversive and reconnaissance group of militants—supported by the fire from grenade launchers, heavy machine guns and small arms—tried to outflank the defense positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Avdiivka. However, the Ukrainian detected the enemy groups and opened fire, forcing the militants to retreat.
At night, the militants also conducted activities in near Mariupol. The village of Lebedinske came under fire from 120-mm and 122-mm artillery. The militants also fired at Talakivka and the Vodyane with heavy weapons. Most of the shelling was carried out by the enemy from positions established in the town of Sakhanka and neighboring settlements.
“The Joint Forces note that the units of the Armed Forces do not open fire on residential areas with civilians,” JFO Headquarters announced. “Today there were no losses among Ukrainian defenders as a result of fighting. The enemy’s losses are being clarified.”
