NATO Parliamentary Assembly session to be held in Kyiv in 2019
The session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization or NATO will be held in the spring of 2019 in Kyiv, as stated by Andriy Parubiy, the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, at a briefing with the head of the Georgian parliament Irakli Kobakhidze. Kobakhidze stated that every country that has ever hosted the NATO PA session eventually became a member of NATO.
"After two rounds of discussions, it was decided that the NATO PA will be held in Kyiv in the spring of 2019. We take our cue from the Euro-Atlantic path of Georgia in that, as Mr. Irakli correctly mentioned, each country where the Parliamentary Assembly was held later became a member of NATO," said Parubiy.
Moreover, in February, according to Parubiy, a meeting of the parliaments’ speakers of the Baltic-Black Sea region countries will take place.
"By our initiative, we are planning a meeting in Kishinev [in Moldova] in a month, where the speakers of the parliaments of Georgia, Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Romania, that are all Baltic-Black Sea countries, should arrive to demonstrate their position on the Russian aggression," Parubiy added.
According to the speaker, the second goal of the meeting will be to support the European aspirations of Moldova.
Whether or not Ukraine attains membership, NATO has already made considerable investment in the country by allocating 40 million euros to Ukraine through their 10 trust funds.
