Media: Assad’s forces continue to attack the opposition in northern Syria
The forces of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad’s regime are continuing to attack the positions of the armed opposition in the regions of Turkmen Mountain and Jabal al-Akrad in the Syrian province of Latakia, news agency Anadolu reports.
According to the news agency, Syrian state forces are continuing to launch missile and mortar strikes on the areas and villages under opposition control, which is resulting in casualties and destruction.
Usama Solak, head of the Syrian-Turkmen council mission in Hatay, told the news agency that prior to the month of Ramadan, the regime’s attacks on Latakia had effectively dwindled, and then they increased from the first iftar (the first meal during the month of Ramadan), when people are more vulnerable.
“The forces of Assad’s regime are making attacks from the start of the iftar. It can be said that the inhabitants of Turkmen Mountain and Jabal al-Akrad start their iftar with the sounds of bombardment,” Solak said.
Most of the houses in the region have been destroyed, and the regime forces have been bombing all of the primary roads. During the first days of Ramadan, in the vicinity of Latakia alone, three people died and at least 20 people were wounded, the head of the mission stated.
According to him, there are fires in the region after each attack.
“These attacks, made during iftar and suhoor (the meal before the fast), once again show that Assad’s regime is alien to religion and gets satisfaction from killing. Earlier, as a result of the bombing during the festive namaz, dozens of people died. In Syria, attacks on mosques during Friday prayer, hospitals and markets have become a routine thing,” Solak observed.
