Authorities in Moscow removed memorial to Boris Nemtsov
Moscow authorities have removed the makeshift memorial to Russian oppositionist Boris Nemtsov, who was shot dead near the Kremlin in 2015, Radio Liberty reports.
As was reported, on the evening of May 8th on the Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge, two activists who were on duty near the memorial were detained. The activists were released in the morning on May 9th.
Employees of the state company Gormost removed the flowers and portraits of Nemetsov from the bridge. Russian authorities have not commented on the situation.
A variety of memorials to Boris Nemetsov have been placed on the Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge since his murder on the night of February 28, 2015. Since that time, the memorials have been repeatedly demolished and activists who were on the bridge have been detained.
In January, memorials were demolished three times and activists were detained by police. Gormost staff explained the demolition as "garbage collection, reconstruction and maintenance of the structure."
On the night of February 17th, a makeshift memorial at the murder scene of Boris Nemtsov on the Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge was demolished again.
The co-chair of the RPR-PARNAS party, Boris Nemtsov, was killed on the Moskvoretsky Bridge in 2015.
In January 2016, a Russian Investigative Committee reported that "the case was solved," however, the defense didn’t agree with that conclusion.
At the end of December, alleged perpetrator Zaur Dadaev was charged with the murder. Charges were also brought against Anzor and Shadid Gubashev; Khamzat Bach and Temirlan Eskerhanov.
