UK Anti-Doping Agency calls for the Russian national team be disqualified from 2018 Olympics
The head of the British Anti-Doping Agency, David Kenworthy exhorted the disqualification of the Russian national team from participation in the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in South Korean Pyeongchang.
He stated this in an interview with the BBC on Saturday, January 7, commenting on the facts of the second part of the report of the World Anti-Doping Agency Commission under the direction of Richard McLaren.
"What has been done in Russia is unbelievable. It's even more incredible than a James Bond novel and it degrades the whole sport," he said.
According to him, the International Olympic Committee made a mistake by not having debarred the entire Russian team from participation in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in the summer of 2016.
"Yes, I think that Russian athletes should be removed from the Olympics. They should have been removed from the Olympics in the summer of 2016. IOC messed up everything," he said. Kenworthy added that regarding the Russian Paralympic team, the right decision was made.
"We continue to receive reports about violations and strange statements about whether there was any governmental support. The main thing we need to do is to make Russia return to the framework of the rules, which will take a lot of time and effort," Kenworthy stated.
