Bulgaria’s new president-elect looks forward to developing dialogue with Russia
The President-elect of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev, stated at his first press conference that he looks forward to developing dialogue with Russia. “The in-depth dialogue with Russia will give a chance to reduce the level of opposition, escalation of tension and normalization of the situation in Syria and Ukraine. We all want it,” Radev said.
“The policy towards sanctions is the responsibility of the government,” Radev noted, speaking about anti-Russian sanctions. “However, as the President of Bulgaria, I should conduct a dialogue and seek a solution to this problem with my colleagues from the European Union, especially with those who don’t like sanctions either. I will work with the government and EU colleagues on this issue,” Radev promised.
The President-elect of Bulgaria thanked all voters, who took part in the vote, regardless of which of the candidates they chose to vote for. ”In spite of threats, you voted for changes. And today, democracy in Bulgaria overcame apathy and fear,” Radev said. He noted that the negative assessment of authorities created a new political situation but not one requiring drastic measures.
“All political actors will have to analyze the current situation and behave responsibly. I also understand my responsibilities and believe the present day to be the beginning of the most important mission in my life: the beginning of work for safe and peaceful Bulgaria. Our motherland should be home for all of us. Our differences are our valuable treasure, we shouldn’t be afraid of the future but we should remain mindful of our obligations and move forward,” the President-elect of Bulgaria said.
