During a conversation with Trump, Tusk stressed the need to support Ukraine

Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, had a telephone conversation with US President-elect Donald Trump and stressed the need to support Ukraine, Reuters reported, citing sources in the EU.

According to the agency, Tusk stressed the importance of transatlantic cooperation, including with regard to Ukraine.

On Twitter, Tusk confirmed that he had a telephone conversation with Trump on Friday; however, no details were officially reported.

The fact that Trump’s campaign promised to improve Washington’s cool relations with Russia has caused grave concern in the EU, especially in Poland and the Baltic countries.

Tusk and European Commission president, Jean-Claude Juncker, sent Trump a letter after he won the US presidential election, in which they stressed the importance of transatlantic relations at a time of unprecedented challenges such as the so-called Islamic State, threats to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, climate change and migration.
