Dzhemilev named conditions for supplying Crimea with electricity
The leader of the Crimean Tater people, Mustafa Dzhemilev, summarized that the contract should specify that Crimea is temporarily occupied by Russia. According to Dzhemilev, the document must be signed by representatives of the relevant ministries of Ukraine and Russia.
The Crimean leader, during a meeting with the president of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, named three conditions necessary for signing the contract which would supply electricity to Crimea. Dzhemilev discussed this in the interview with ZN.UA, published on Sun. Dec. 13.
Dzhemilev believes that the contract should be signed not between the state-owned enterprises in Russia and Ukraine, but between the relevant ministries. Additionally, Crimea should be called an autonomous republic specifying that it is temporarily occupied by Russia, Dzhemilev said. The third necessary condition he called "the release of political prisoners, an end to harassment, the search for the missing, abducted activists, and the guarantee for democratic freedoms." According to Dzhemilev, Poroshenko agreed with the above requirements.
The Crimean peninsula was disconnected from the Ukrainian nuclear power plant on the night of Nov. 21 after the support towers for the power lines in the Kherson region were blown up. Ukrainian electricity supply resumed on Dec. 8 after repairing the "Kakhovskaya Titan" power line.
On Dec. 2, Russia launched the first line of an 'energy bridge' from the Krasnodar region to Crimea, which will serve 200 MW of electricity to the peninsula by Dec. 20 according to the plans. Russian President, Vladimir Putin said that by the time the 'energy bridge' is operating at full capacity, the Russian Federation should not have any contracts with Ukraine for the electricity supply.
