Ethnic Ukrainian becomes head of the Canadian Army
Canadian Ambassador to Ukraine Roman Washchuk wrote on Twitter that ethnic Ukrainian Paul Wynnyk has become the new commander of the Canadian Ground Forces.
“Lt. Gen. Wynnyk, the grandson of Ukrainian immigrants from Stryi, took command of the Canadian Army,” the Ambassador wrote.
The appointment was approved on July 14. The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, reported this on Twitter and congratulated Wynnyk on the appointment.
Paul Wynnyk has been the head of the military intelligence of Canada. Wynnyk is a military engineer and has been serving in the Canadian Armed Forces since 1981.
In 2009, Wynnyk served in Afghanistan, as part of the multi-national command of security forces. He was an aide to the commander responsible for the formation of the Afghan Ministry of Defense and the National Army.
