EU provides Ukraine with 250 million euros annually

The European Union is the largest bilateral donor to Ukraine and provides the country with approximately EUR 250 million annually, the head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, Hugues Mingarelli, stated in his welcoming speech. According to the French diplomat, the European Union and Ukraine maintain a close and special relationship.

“The relations between Ukraine and the European Union have become much stronger after signing and launching the ambitious EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, which includes the establishment of a deep and comprehensive free trade area between the EU and Ukraine. Our association brings us closer to each other, activates trade relations, harmonizes Ukrainian laws and standards with European ones, binds Ukraine to European markets and strengthens common values. We are stronger together than apart,” Mingarelli stated.

According to him, the European Union is proud to be the largest bilateral donor to Ukraine. The EU supports the reform process in the country, providing approximately EUR 250 million annually. Mingarelli stated that the European Union will assist Ukraine in the fight against corruption, reforming the judicial system and civil service, and will also work together with Ukrainian authorities to improve the investment and legislative climate that benefits consumers and business.

Hugues Mingarelli was appointed Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine in July. In his position, he succeeded Jan Tombiński. On September 8, Mingarelli presented his credentials to the president of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko.
