New Ukrainian sanctions against Russia come into effect
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s decree to expand the list of sanctions against Russian citizens and companies has come into effect. The list of individuals affected by sanctions has increased from 347 to 682 people. The list of legal entities has increased from 104 to 271. This was reported by Segodnya.
Individuals added to the list include: the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev; the Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Rashid Nurgaliyev; the Deputy Prime Minister, Dmitry Rogozin; the former head of the Foreign Intelligence Service, Mikhail Fradkov and the leader of the LDPR, Vladimir Zhirinovsky. The authorized representatives of the Russian President Vladimir Putin included in the list are: Oleg Belaventsev from the North Caucasian Federal District, Sergei Menyailo from the Siberian Federal District, Vladimir Ustinov from the Southern Federal District as well as the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Crimea to the Russian President, Georgy Muradov.
Sanctions have now also been imposed on members of the Federation Council and the State Duma of Russia. These include: the chairperson of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko; senators Yelena Mizulina, Andrei Klishas, Vladimir Jabbarov, Viktor Ozerov, Alexander Totoonov and Evgeny Bushmin; the chairman of the Duma committee on international affairs, Leonid Slutsky and the secretary of the General Council of United Russia, Sergei Neverov.
Businessmen Yury Kovalchuk, Gennady Timchenko and Alexei Mordashov were also added to the list.
Rosoboronexport, Rostec, Izhmash, KAMAZ, Rusal, Ilyushin Aviation Complex and the United Aircraft Corporation were among the legal entities added to the list. A number of aviation companies, including Alrosa and UTair, were also added. The banking and credit institutions added include Kolibri and Unistream Commercial Bank. The National Research Centre, which is the Kurchatov Institute, was also added.
The updated sanctions list against Russian citizens and companies was approved at a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) on the 16th of September. It was later approved by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.
