Interpol denies Russia's request to place Khodorkovsky on wanted list
Interpol has rejected Russia’s request to place Russian oppositionist and the former Head of Yukos, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, on the international wanted list. This was stated by the headquarters of Interpol in Lyon, as reported by the TASS news agency.
"After considering the request, the Interpol General Secretariat has determined that it does not meet the rules of the organization. In this case, the National Central Bureau of Interpol (NCB) in Moscow was notified that Interpol cannot cooperate with the international police on this case", the main office explained.
It was also noted that the Moscow Bureau had violated the Statute by sending out information about Khodorkovsky's potential presence on the wanted list to all of the participating countries without informing the Central Office.
On the 11th of February, the NCB in Russia demanded that Khodorkovsky be placed on the list in connection with the murder of the Mayor of Nefteyugansk, Vladimir Petukhov. The appropriate request was sent to the Central Bureau of Interpol in Lyon.
In December last year, a Russian court in absentia decided that Khodorkovsky would be detained as a measure of restraint.
The Apostrophe news agency reported that the Press Secretary of the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov, claimed that Khodorkovsky, is "a pure criminal".
