Klimkin: Ukraine needs more high-tech weapons
Ukraine needs more defensive and high-tech weapons, as well as significant cooperation with the US and NATO, stated Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin in an interview with ZN.ua news web site.
“We definitely need it. I have always said I do not like this division, between lethal and non-lethal. There is a clear concept of defensive weapons. We need it," Klimkin said, stressing that "we definitely need more high-tech weapons. “
Replying to the question of whether it was possible to expect that the new US administration would give Ukraine lethal defensive weapons, the minister said: "I have the impression that these people have clear convictions and a willingness to defend them. How this will be done in terms of the supply of weapons to us and other issues, we need to work on it. Military-technical cooperation will definitely continue, and the most important thing is to develop it.”
The head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that Ukraine “needed effective cooperation with the US and NATO in many areas.”
Because a significant amount of their time is devoted to security issues, I see how this interaction is really starting to produce results. And, importantly, by the reaction of our friends and colleagues I understand that they see the results as well,” Klimkin said, summing up the situation.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko stated that Ukraine is still interested in the West providing its armed forces with lethal weapons. According to him, the Ukrainian army has proved that it can be relied and trusted upon.
