Media finds colleague of Russian general responsible for transportation of the Buk missile system which brought down the MH17
A Russian journalist managed to track down a person who claims that the voice which can be heard in the SBU (Security Service of Ukraine) recordings about the Boeing belongs to Russian Colonel Sergey Dubinsky, who is believed to be responsible for the transfer of the Buk missile system which shot down the Boeing MH17.
This is described in the research of Pavel Kanygin for Nova Gazeta.
Sergey Tiunov, leader of Zaporizhia Self-Defense organization and war veteran in Afghanistan, recognized Khmuryi (Gloomy) as his former colleague. In an exclusive interview for Nova Gazeta, Tiunov stated that he was friends with the former head of the Intelligence Directorate of Donetsk People’s Republic (GRU DPR) Sergey Dubinsky, and discussed the consequences of the MH17 tragedy with him.
At the end of the 1980s, Tiunov and Dubinsky served in the reconnaissance unit of the 181st regiment in Afghanistan. During the first months of the war in the Donbas, Tiunov was able to release several dozen Ukrainian soldiers from captivity on account of his familiarity with Dubinsky.
Tiunov says that he fears for Dubinsky’s life, because he is a key witness in the case on the MH17 crash, and could shed light on the circumstances of the tragedy, and name the people who gave the order to attack the passenger liner and thus bear direct responsibility for the deaths.
After recording a discussion with Dubinsky, the journalist asked analysis experts from the Gothenburg University Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology to compare the recording with the SBU’s recording.
According to the report, the analysis was done in the Voxalys laboratory (which carries out forensic investigations for the Swedish Prosecutor’s Office, police and courts) with the blind test method, without immersion in the context, and according to the instructions of the International Association for Forensic Phonetics and Acoustics (IAFPA). The experts did not know who was speaking, when and what was being spoken about in the material presented to them for examination. The investigation was led by forensic analyst and executive committee member Jonas Lindh.
After spending 10 days on the investigation, the experts prepared a forensic report, which states that the recordings constitute a small amount of material, which is nevertheless sufficient for a conclusion. The results of their investigation support the hypothesis that the compared voice samples belong to one and the same person.
In February, the Bellingcat international investigative group named the person who was in control of the transport to the Donbas of the Buk missile launcher system which shot down the Malaysian Boeing MH17.
According to the published report, retired Russian General-Major Sergey Dubinsky, with a nom de guerre Khmuryi, fighter in the armed forces of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic, was responsible for the transportation of the Buk missile system.
At the start of March, Bellingcat released a new report analyzing five phone calls of the Russian officer Sergey Dubinsky, known as Khmuryi, published by the Security Service of Ukraine and the International Investigative Group. On the basis of this information, the authors of the report claim that the identity of Dubinsky-Khmuryi and his involvement in the catastrophe have been “definitively established”.
