Naftogaz refused to negotiate with Gazprom in Moscow
National Joint Stock Company Naftogaz of Ukraine refused to negotiate with Gazprom in Moscow; a decision noted in the company's response to the invitation of Alexander Medvedev, Gazprom Deputy Chairman of the Management Committee.
Yesterday, Medvedev said that Gazprom was ready to discuss a new transit contract because the current one expires in 2019, so he invited Naftogaz to come to Moscow.
Naftogaz believes that the territory of the Russian Federation is not a place for negotiations. "This position has been consistently adhered to by Naftogaz since 2014, both in correspondence and during official meetings with representatives of the Russian company,” the company said.
Naftogaz offers to hold negotiations in Brussels or any other city of the European Union. Yuriy Vitrenko, Commercial Director of Naftogaz recently said that the company plans to significantly reduce tariffs for the transit of natural gas after the contract expires. To reduce gas transit rates through Ukraine, a guaranteed annual volume of transportation is required, which is about 110 billion cubic meters of gas.
