Only two Duma deputies observe moment of silence in memory of Nemtsov
Russian Duma Deputy Dmitry Gudkov proposed that those in attendance of Friday’s legislative session in Moscow share a moment of silence in memory of Boris Nemtsov on the eve of the anniversary of his assassination. As Glavnoe reported, only Gudkov and one other, Ivan Grachev, stood up to honor Nemtsov, who was assassinated on February 27th of last year.
“I suggested that we hold a moment of silence in the Duma in memory of Boris Nemtsov. As a result, two people stoop up- myself and Ivan Grachev… Also, Valery Zubov, Ilya Ponomaryov, and Sergey Petrov supported me, but they’re not in Moscow at the moment,” Gudkov wrote on Facebook.
Russian opposition leaders are planning to hold large-scale demonstrations throughout the country in memory of Nemtsov on Saturday, February 27th - the one-year anniversary of his assassination in the center of Moscow.
“Well, tomorrow at the march there will be a lot more [supporters]. Perhaps some in the Duma will feel ashamed. Somewhere deep in their souls,” the MP added.
Gudkov is a Duma Deputy and members of the SR (Spravedlivaya Rossiya, A Just Russia) party. SR’s platform is based on the principles of fairness, freedom, and solidarity. The party has declared is absolute opposition to Russian President Vladimir Putin, though it has expressed support for Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
