Peskov: Russia will conduct its own doping investigation
Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia is expecting to receive WADA documents related to doping by Russian athletes in order to conduct its own investigation.
"Yesterday, President Vladimir Putin appealed to the Commission to represent reasonable, substantial evidence and facts, which became the basis for the accusations announced by McLaren. This information is required and, if provided, will be used in the course of investigation that, I again want to repeat — have yet to have been carried out by our investigating organisations — and by the Investigating Committee and the Prosecutor General's Office," he said, as reported by RIA Novosti.
Peskov also said that it is still unknown what is to be inspected in relation to the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB) after the report of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). "I still don't know about that," he added. In addition, Peskov said that the report will not be published in the near future, because "the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will wait for the verdict of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) (headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland), which will not come for another few months."
As was previously reported, WADA issued a report on the investigation into doping at the Winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014, and accused high-ranking officials from the Russian Ministry of Sports and the FSB of involvement in the concealment of positive doping tests. As a result, WADA urged international sports bodies to deny Russian officials access to further international competitions, including the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
