Poll: More than half of Ukrainians believe there is a real threat of war with Russia

Fifty-two percent of polled Ukrainians think about the threat of a full-scale war with Russia today, while 34% do not see this as a threat, according to a survey by the Social Research Center, Sofia.

Should the military conflict with Russia intensify, 27% of respondents said they are willing to assist in territorial defence units, while 39% intend to support those who advocate for ending the war and 25% do not intend to interfere.

However, 44% of respondents believe that the West will not ease sanctions against Russia in the near future unless the conflict in the Donbas region is settled. At the same time, 34% of respondents believe that the easing of sanctions will inevitably occur in the near future.

Responding to a question about how to solve the conflict in the Donbas region, 25% of respondents said it is reasonable to provide the self-proclaimed republics of the Donbas region with a special status as a part of Ukraine. 23% are in favor of active hostilities and the restoration of full control of Kiev over these territories. 18% believe that Ukraine needs to "separate itself" from the DNR and the LNR.

The survey also showed that 42% of respondents support the development of relations with the West, primarily with the EU. However, 44% support the multi-vector foreign policy of Ukraine. 45% of respondents would vote for Ukraine's accession to NATO if a referendum was held, while 32% would vote against it.

The survey was conducted from June 29 to July 8, 2016. 2,001 respondents over 18 years of age were polled through individual interviews. The statistical sampling error does not exceed 2.2%.
