Poroshenko and Savchenko discuss sanctions list
The President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, met on Saturday, May 28th with Nadiya Savchenko. They discussed the "Savchenko-Sentsov" sanctions list and coordinated joint actions to speed up the release of Ukrainian prisoners.
"We are in the active phase of the release of our hostages and we have no right to stop the work. On the contrary, we must intensify it," the press office of the President said, quoting Poroshenko.
The President also passed on congratulations from US Vice President Joe Biden and President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz to Savchenko. He recalled that protests in the U.S. and EU countries demanding the release of Ukrainian prisoner in Russia played an important role.
In addition, Poroshenko and Savchenko discussed the prospects of the latter presenting Ukraine’s position in the PACE and the European Parliament.
Answering a question about her readiness to engage in work on the international level, Savchenko said: "I'm ready to work. My desire depends on the will of Ukraine. I am ready to work wherever you say because you are fulfilling it now.”
The President also proposed that Savchenko visit a number of European countries and meet with European leaders. They also discussed the situation on the front line, particularly the escalation of hostilities and the death of Battalion Commander Andriy Zhuk of the 72nd Brigade.
The meeting was also attended by deputies of the head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine, Kostiantyn Yelisieiev and Andriy Taranov, as well as presidential spokesman Svyatoslav Tsegolko.
