Poroshenko: Ukraine will reduce amount of Russian-supplied nuclear fuel to 45%
In 2017 Ukraine will reduce the amount of nuclear fuel supplied from the Russian Federation to 45%. This was stated by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko during his visit to Tripoli TPP, RBC-Ukraine reports.
"In 2017, [our supplies of nuclear fuel from Russia] will be 45%. We will receive the rest from our other partners, including from the American company Westinghouse, which will increase nuclear safety," Poroshenko said.
He also noted that the supply of nuclear fuel from Russia in 2016 also declined and amounted to 55% of the total.
At the end of 2014, Westinghouse signed an agreement with Energoatom on the significant expansion of nuclear fuel supplies to Ukraine's nuclear power plants until 2020. Under the terms of the new agreement, Westinghouse uses its global network for the production of fuel and components for the needs of the Ukrainian market, which will likely come from the company's production facilities in the US and Europe.
According to NNEGC Energoatom, Ukraine plans to load six power generating units with Westinghouse fuel: two units at South Ukraine NPP and four at Zaporizhia NPP.
In 2017, Westinghouse announced the delivery of six nuclear fuel shipments to Ukraine.
