Poroshenko will hold talks with G7 leaders on the eve of the summit on May 25-27
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko intends to hold talks with the leaders of the G7 countries—the United States, Canada, Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Japan—on the eve of the G7 Summit, which will be held in Italy on May 25-27. He made this announcement on channel ICTV.
"I'm going to consult with leaders of the G7 in the near future... to prepare for the summit at the highest level," he said.
On May 20, Poroshenko intends to visit Berlin to meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel to discuss preparations for the meeting in the "Normandy Format" that includes Ukraine, Germany, France and Russia.
After that, according to the President, he has scheduled meetings and telephone conversations with other G7 leaders. Poroshenko said that he will discuss with them the issue of extending sanctions against Russia for 12 months rather than six months. He will also broach the issue of motivating Russia to stop aggression against Ukraine.
It was recently reported that Poroshenko arrived at Malta for an official visit where he will hold meetings with the authorities on May 16-17.
On May 17, Poroshenko will visit Strasbourg to sign a document granting Ukraine a visa-free regime.
