Portugal provides Ukraine with 200,000 euro for non-lethal weapons
Portugal allocated 200,000 euro for Ukraine for the purchase of equipment and non-lethal weapons, as stated by the Minister of National Defense of Portugal, José Alberto Azeredo Lopes, during a meeting with Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak, according to the Defense Ministry’s website.
"He expressed the readiness of Portugal to provide the Ukrainian Army with material and technical support by providing 200,000 euro to purchase equipment and non-lethal weapons,” the statement reads.
Moreover, today in Lisbon, Poltorak and Lopes agreed to exchange experience gained by military doctors. Portugal also decided to treat and rehabilitate those injured in the military operations in the Donbas.
Poltorak also invited Portugal’s Minister to visit Ukraine. Lopes accepted the invitation and said that he will visit Ukraine in the second half of 2017.
He also expressed hope that the Memorandum on defense and technical cooperation will be signed during the visit.
The candidate for U.S. Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, supported the transfer of lethal weapons to Ukraine.
