Poroshenko extended sanctions against Russia
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has approved the resolution of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) to extend the sanctions against Russian individuals and legal entities for one year. The corresponding document was published on Monday, October 17, on the website of the Ukrainian president state.
On September 16, 2016, the NSDC had decided to extend special personal, economic and other sanctions imposed by the National Security Council on September 2, 2015 (with amendments by the National Security Council introduced on September 17, 2015, and May 20, 2016), which were approved by the president of Ukraine on September 16, 2015.
The press service of NSDC has reported that on September 16 the list of people who fall under the sanctions has been expanded. “Additionally, 335 individuals and several dozen entities were included in the sanctions list, pending further verification,” the statement says.
Also, President Poroshenko called for the preparation of a separate document on sanctions against people who were involved in the elections to the Russian State Duma on the territory of the Crimea. The decision on this list will be published in the near future.
Overall, according to the decision of the National Security Council, the sanctions were introduced against 1,124 Russian individuals and 156 legal entities. Among the individuals who are subject to the sanctions are Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu; the head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov; a former chairman of the State Duma, Sergey Naryshkin; the former head of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the State Duma, Alexey Pushkov; People’s Artist of the USSR Joseph Kobzon, and President’s Advisor Sergey Glazyev.
