Putin explained why increasing financial assistance to Sevastopol is not yet reasonable
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Sevastopol could receive budgeted funds two to three times larger than in the past. However, according to him, this cannot happen, because the city is not able to cope with such a large amount of money properly.
"Sevastopol is not ready to accept such a large amount of money," Putin explained on Wednesday at a meeting with teachers. The inability to master all the money received can lead to theft of funds, Putin added.
At the same time, he acknowledged that "much remains to be done" in the city, including in the social sphere. The situation in Sevastopol is currently worse than in the rest of the Crimean cities, the President emphasized.
Earlier this week, the Accounts Chamber (Russian external audit body) inspected the implementation of the federal targeted program "Social and Economic Development of the Crimea and Sevastopol until 2020" and called its realization ineffective. The inspection also revealed a low level of budget development and a backlog in the construction of 180 facilities.
