Russia is completing formation of new bomber division in the Far East
The Russian Defense Ministry is completing formation of a new Heavy Bomber Air Division in the Far East. The division, which consists of Tu-95MS strategic missile carriers and Tu-22M3 long-range bombers, will be tasked with patrolling the Pacific Ocean in the region of Japan, Hawaii and Guam islands. According to experts, the formation of a new air division will show the seriousness of Russia's eastern aspirations to the countries of the Pacific region and the USA.
“At present, formation of the division is being completed,” a representative of the military department familiar with the situation, told Izvestia. “It included several air squadrons of long-range aviation bombers, stationed in the Eastern and Central military districts”.
According to Izvestia, the new division will be based out of Sevastopol- Berlin 6953 Guards Red Banner Air Base. The division’s strategic and long-range bombers will be stationed on the Belaya (Irkutsk region) and Ukrainka (Amur region) air bases.
