Russia says it will stop broadcasting Ukrainian media in the Crimea
According to Russia's RIA Novosti news service, authorities of the annexed Crimea stated that broadcasting of Ukrainian media to the territory of the peninsula will be stopped as it does not comply with Russian legislation. The statement was made by the Minister of Information of the Crimea, Dmitry Polonsky.
According to him, broadcasting to the Crimea will not be allowed because of "the lack of legal grounds".
"We have enough technical means to stop the broadcasts that are prohibited by Russian legislation in the territory of the Crimean Republic," Polonsky stated.
He added that suppression of a signal from the new tower to the territory of the peninsula will not affect the quality of TV and radio broadcasting in the Crimea.
Polonsky also stated that "the project (of Ukrainian broadcasting to the Crimea) has no prospects".
As was previously reported, on December 2, the Deputy Minister of information policy of Ukraine, Artem Bidenko, stated that the construction of a 150 m high TV-radio-communication tower in a village of Henichesk of Kherson region has begun. The tower will provide broadcasts to the Crimea.
