Russia will hold a maritime parade in St. Petersburg despite the presence of the American destroyer USS Carney in the Baltic Sea
Mikhail Nenashev, the Chairman of the All-Russian Fleet Support public initiative, stated that the maritime parade in St. Petersburg will take place, although fewer ships will take part in it.
He denied media reports that it was decided to cancel the parade on Victory Day in the northern capital because of the USS Carney cruiser, which approached the inland waters of the Russian Federation at a distance of a potential missile strike.
"The maritime parade in St. Petersburg will certainly take place, but the number of ships participating in it will be reduced. But this has nothing to do with the appearance of an American destroyer in the Baltic Sea," RIA Novosti quotes Nenashev as saying.
According to him, the reduction in the number of ships participating in the parade is connected with organizational issues.
He also stressed that the Baltic Fleet, aerospace forces and ground forces "have enough strength and means to neutralize the threat."
