A Russian military adviser, who was killed in Syria, died from severe injuries as a result of the attack on the Syrian army training center in the province of Homs, as reported by the head of the press service and information for the Russian Ministry of Defense, Igor Konashenkov, in an interview with Novaya Gazeta.

Four Syrian cadets were also killed alongside the Russian adviser during the mortar attack by militants of the so-called Islamic State. The Russian officer was seriously injured and died on February 1st in the hospital.

General Konashenkov refused to name the deceased adviser, calling it a security-related "position of the department."

According to the sources of Novaya Gazeta in Syria, the shelling of the training center in Homs occurred on January 26th. On the same day in that city, on the Al-Sittin Street, in the residential area of Az-Zahra, two terrorist attacks were executed. First, a car packed with explosives was blown up, and later a terrorist detonated a suicide belt. In the double terrorist attack nearly a hundred residents of Homs were injured and 20 people were killed.

The Kremlin also refused to disclose the name of the adviser. However, presidential spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, admitted that the name could still be disclosed as the deceased will be awarded with a state award posthumously, but only "if the documents become publicly accessible."
