Russian media reported on what happened on Crimean border when Russia blamed Ukraine for terrorist plot
The website of Russia’s Dozhd TV channel revealed new information about the possible cause of a shootout in the Crimea on the night of the 7th of August.
It was reported that during the shooting in Armyansk, a car with two civilians came under fire. Russia says that the shooting was part of an attempt to detain saboteurs. This was said by a representative of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People in the Crimea, Muzafar Fukala, citing witnesses and a friend of the victim, Bakha Aliyev.
Sources at Dozhd do not know who the attackers are affiliated with. A male and a female were in the car. The driver was hit by three or four bullets, and the passenger is in intensive care.
“A military minibus overtook the car and fired without any warning,” Fukala said. The victims were then immediately taken to the hospital of the nearest major city, which was Krasnoperekopsk.
Dozhd correspondents visited the hospital where an employee confirmed that the victims were hospitalized there. According to him, they were then transferred to the hospital in Simferopol. However, the correspondents were unable to get there.
According to doctors, the young man’s condition had worsened after his transfer from Krasnoperekopsk. There is still no information about the girl.
Dozhd was able to acquire a video showing a grey Skoda with Crimean number plates. A large amount of bullet traces can be seen on the body of the car. The Crimean Department of the Investigative Committee did not respond to requests made by Dozhd. In addition, Crimean Prosecutor Natalia Poklonskaya refused to comment on the situation.
Interfax-Ukraine and Levyi Bereg’s website had previously reported, citing sources, that one of the victim’s names is Hafiz Muhamedov. According to media reports, the shooting was started by drunken Russian soldiers.
The deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, Nariman Dzhelyalov, while on air with 112 Ukraine channel, said that no one is allowed to visit Muhamedov in the hospital and that his family is afraid to speak publicly.
“According to information available, a wedding took place on the night of the 6th of August in the village of Suvorovo, which is near the Armynask checkpoint. This person is not a Crimean Tatar. He is a Meskhetian Turk. Russian military personnel attended this wedding. There was a conflict between the Russian military and representatives of other nationalities. Civilians have been hurt as a result of the shooting,” Dzhelyalov reported.
On the 10th of August, FSB said that Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense had sent several groups of saboteurs to the Crimea to commit terrorist acts. According to Russian security forces, during fighting on the 7th and the 8th of August, a FSB employee and military officer were killed.
Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Ukraine of "transitioning to terror". Ukraine has denied the charges and stated that they are being used as a provocation.
