Security Service of Ukraine informed about detention of Russian spy in Rivne
The Security Service of Ukraine detained an agent from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, as reported on the SSU (Security Service of Ukraine) website.
“The spy – a citizen of Ukraine, who resides in Russia, was sent to recruit a senior officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The agent of the Main Intelligence Directorate was to offer the Ukrainian officer and his family money and Russian citizenship in exchange for documents classified as “Secret” and “Top Secret” concerning military training, arming, mobilization, deployment, and the military cooperation of the Security Service of Ukraine with foreign partners. The amount of money depended on the relevance and importance of the military secrets,” the report says.
It was reported that an employee of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation, Alexander Ilykhin was the curator of the spy.
“Having received an offer to cooperate with the Russian Security Services, Ukrainian servicemen informed the Security Service of Ukraine. On the 7th of October 2016, the Russian spy entered Ukraine to obtain secret documents that operatives of the Ukrainian Security Service have already obtained. The following day, he was detained while obtaining the USB flash drive with false information, which the spy believed to be secret military documents,” the SSU noted.
