Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office has identified 100 people involved in the downing of MH17
The Ukrainian Prosector General's investigation into Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 which was shot down over the Donbas in the summer of 2014 has identified 100 people involved in the catastrophe, as stated by the First Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Dmytro Storozhuk, during a briefing, Ukrainskaya Pravda reported.
"All 100 people were identified," he said.
Storozhuk explained that those indentified were allegedly involved in the transportation of the Buk missile system, the crew, who operated it, and the people who gave instructions and orders. "We are in the framework of investigation and we do not declare who is a suspect or a witness to these events. Every person’s involvement is still being investigated," he said.
"According to one version of the investigation, some people executed certain orders without knowing their purpose," Storozhuk said.
Storozhuk hopes that these people who witnessed the transportation of the Buk from Russia to Ukraine and its return to Russia will come forward and provide the investigation with information. "I have confidence that such people exist and will offer the information," the First Deputy Prosecutor General said.
Storozhuk noted that there are two suspects. "Today, we are very interested in the identification of the so-called Andrei Ivanovich known by a call sign 'Orion' and Nikolai Fyodorovich known by a call sign 'Dolphin'," he said.
During the press conference, a recording of a fragment of a conversation between two people with "Russian accents" was played. Storozhuk also promised protection to witnesses and their families.
Earlier, the European Union accused Russia of trying to disrupt the investigation of the crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 over the Donbas.
An international team that investigated the crash of flight MH17 concluded that the plane was hit by a missile fired from the Buk missile system. As a result of the tragedy, 283 passengers, including 80 children, and 15 crew members were killed.
