Latvia assures Ukraine that it supports keeping sanctions on Russia until Minsk agreements are implemented

The State Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Andrejs Pildegovičs, assured the State Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Zayats, that his country supports the continuance of sanctions against Russia until the full implementation of the Minsk Agreements. Andrejs Pildegovičs expressed this position during a visit to Riga by the Ukrainian State Secretary of Foreign Affairs, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The public discussion entitled “25 Years of Diplomatic Ties between Ukraine and the Republic of Latvia – Achievements and Prospects” was held by the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and the Republic of Latvia. The 25th anniversary was celebrated on the 12th of February.

The State Secretaries of Foreign Affairs of Latvia and Ukraine addressed representatives of the community, journalists, and Latvian university students. Andrejs Pildegovičs and Andrei Zayats shared their views on the priorities for the further development of bilateral relations.

“The Latvian State Secretary emphasized the unacceptability of the violation of internationally recognized borders. Andrejs Pildegovičs expressed support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, its European integration aspirations, and its interest in the development of common projects in the area of transportation,” the statement says.

The press service also reported that the support of the Latvian Parliament, and the requirement for efficient implementation of reforms for the further development of inter-regional collaboration between the two countries were the focus of the meeting between the State Secretary, Andriy Zayats, and representatives of the Inter-Parliamentary relations group with Ukraine.
